A Law Above the Law: The Case

(limited series, drama, crime                                                                      religious exposé.                                                                                          Timeline: late 90s to present-                                                                    day. Partly based on actual                                                                        events).

Tagline: A pedophile could be knocking at your door.

Logline: A once devoted Jehovah's Witness minister and his confidant, become targets of attack when his testimony and evidence in a civil lawsuit, will expose a deceitful child sex predator within the flock and a massive pedo-sex cover-up by the church's hierarchy.

Etherically adjacent to the book, "Crisis of Conscience" by Raymond Franz, ex-member of the governing body of Jehovah's Witnesses, (1971-1980). The Jehovah's Witnesses handle matters of gross transgressions internally, through what is called an internal "judicial committee." Made up of local (and at times another nearby committee) church ministers, whom they call "elders." In the case of child sex abuse (which to them, is a crime by coincidence) the child allowed to tell the elders the accusations. And questioned by elders assigned to the case, in order to air, in graphic detail their sexual trauma(s). All of this information is recorded on forms that are supplied to the committee by the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses Legal Dept, based in its Upstate NY USA, headquarters. A copy of the form(s) are sent electronically, then digitized by their Legal and/or Service Departments and kept in a database, with instruction that the file is marked, "not to be destroyed." (hard copies can be shredded). The Governing Body via these departments, renders the judgment (that's passed on to the local elders) on whether or not the accused sex offender is ex-communicated from their Organisation (with the possibility of being reinstated to their former/cleared status). Therefore, Jehovah's Witnesses Governing Body and their local congregations (over 100,000 worldwide, in over 200 countries), which meet at Kingdom Halls (where the hard-copy records are kept), at least twice weekly, have official knowledge of and documented proof, that child sex offenders are in direct contact (and at times in private) with minors of adult members of their church and their local communities, without warning.

Under the First Amendment provision of a confessional "clergy- penitent privilege," they're under no obligation to report these criminals and their crimes to the police. Unless tod to, by the police. They don't divulge any information (written or verbal) with any member(s) of the flock or outsiders, that are not directly involved in the "judicial committee matter."  Anyone with private knowledge of these crimes that are "publishers" (Jehovah's Witnesses) or "non-baptized publishers" that attend their services are judicially warned not to do so. If they inform any JW without repentance for doing so, they will be ex-communicated. For JWs, that means no member, be they relative or friend, in good standing, can greet or talk to them (outside of a business relationship). Within the household, only secular matters can be discussed.

I was a baptized Jehovah's Witness for 40 years, till I formerly disassociated myself from "The Organisation." My mother was baptized when I was seven years old. I had family members and close friends that were elders (and heads of various local departments). And I knew victims of pedo-sex abuse with the religion. There are more than 8,000,000 Jehovah's Witness publishers/proselytizers worldwide. In short, the Jehovah's Witnesses organization is a haven for pedo-sex criminal activities and other crimes. Unless there's a confession by the alleged or two witnesses to any crime, no action will be taken by the Jehovah's Witnesses hierarchy, in favor of the victim.

STORYTIME

(30-minute procedural, children's series, animated/live-action. Timeline: present, historical, and various.)

Series Logline: Four animated and adventurous preschoolers turn this weekly routine bore into an adventure of historical and scientific discovery, by time travelling and visiting other dimensions with the aid of a portal (the lift) and their individual superpowers in live-action.

Pilot subtitle: The Portal

Pilot Logline: Ola, Dev, Li, and Juno are on a fact-finding mission about the basis of the stories they've been force-fed. They leave the confinement of their prams, covertly roam the library, meet-up with their guide that directs them to the portal (the lift), the barrier between fairytales and enlightenment.

Synopsis: Once a week, ho-hum librarian Louis, who's severely short on storytelling skills; conducts Children’s Storytime Hour of classic nursery rhymes, sing-a-longs, and books, in the cramped children’s section of the library at the local community center. Dev, Juno, Li, and Ola, not your typical 3-year-olds (that so happen are always parked next to each other), complain to each other about the stereotypical narratives, Louis’ lacklustre delivery, and sense an air of disingenuousness and condescension in his tone. So, they secretly cohort together (whilst the programme is going on), and quietly discuss how pointless and boring storytime is. And surmise that there’s more to these tales than meets the ear. So, after Louis announces the featured children’s story of the day and during the excitement and cheering of the rest of the easily amused kids, they escape and explore the library.  Sneaking away as a clandestine A-team, to find books and go online. They’re met by their guide who shows them the portal (the lift) that will allow them to time travel and personally investigate the hidden: historical, social, and political meanings behind these children’s favourites. All along, their parents are mildly entertained and politely endure the entire session, so the Superpower Tots escape, is unbeknownst to them. After their storytime break-out, they return just as the “happy ever after” is read. Their parents are busy, chatting away, so the innocent and seemingly naive little youngsters, go unnoticed as they get back into their buggies, pretending they’ve been amused by the programme. And their parents are none the wiser about their whereabouts or their weekly mission and escapades.

Inspired by my favorite cartoons and childhood stories. And, frequent visits to local libraries in London and listening to the uninspiring programme of entertainment for pre-schoolers.

Save We Prey
(limited series, comedy, drama, crime.                          Timeline: 2005 to present-day. Partly based on actual          events and personal experiences).

Tagline:  The saying goes..."You are one paycheck away, from being homeless."

Logline: Seeking refuge from living rough and an impending hurricane, a woman who's trying to make a second life for herself ends up living far too long in a homeless shelter until she crawls her way out.

My personal homelessness experiences, after hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, in London and upon returning to live in the US after a 14 year absence in the UK and Europe.  Living on the streets of South Beach and Downtown Miami, Florida has taught me that even the best-laid plans and efforts at success, can't hold a candle to the sabotage of the envious and avarice. From the generosity of kind-hearted strangers to the poverty pimps of  "The System", the indigent are in a never ending loop of charity assistance for a price. No matter what the spectrum of misfortune or deliberate destitution, be it from financial failure or reset, relationship or family disintegration, working homeless, physical disability, mental illness, addiction, or selfish cantankerousness - the profits and benefits from their situations or demise are staggering. It is costing everyone. And there is no end of the money train in sight.

MODELS AND MUSES

(60-minute limited series, biopic and dramedy. Partially inspired by the book, "Walking With The Muses" by Patricia Cleveland. And the documentary, "The Battle of Versailles" by Ava DuVernay. Including the story of Elwanda Contreras, Latinx fashion model for Armani, Versace, Fendi, Fiorucci and Enrica Messi in Italy and black American designers, Jack Fuller, Arthur McGee, Claude Payne, Scott Barrie, Stephen Burrows, Willi Smith in the US.

The most underrepresented and unwelcomed fashion models from the US, cast their fate with a one-way ticket to become the most sought after models and muses of Europe’s infamous Houses of haute couture during the 70s and 80s. Black American designer, Stephen Burrows is the only fashion designer still alive, that had befriended and employed these inspirational, POC models, during the 60s, 70s and 80s. Many of them walked for his label (along with those of Halston, Blass, Oscar de la Renta and Anne Klein with a young Donna Karan as intern) during the epic haute couture contest at the strictly elite event. The European "Old World" style vs. American "Coming-of-Age" called the, "Battle of Versailles." The invitees were a Who's Who. The of spouses of Europe's heads-of-state and the fashion industry's little black book guests list. The US came out swinging and crowned champions by their European counterparts. Demanding an encore, foot stomping, standing ovation, program confetti - celebration from the roaring crowd. Bravissima!

My dream has finally come true. I'd hoped that, when I conceived this idea, I'd meet someone who "lived the life."     I now have the pleasure of knowing and befriending one of these pioneer POC fashion models, since living in Miami Beach. After a brief stint in New York and being rejected by (the still preeminent), fashion agencies in Manhattan, as a novice showroom model for several black designers. She was introduced to a French model scout, Guy Heron, that sponsored her move to Paris. Not finding Paris to her liking, she spent most of her career travelling throughout Europe, living mostly in Italy (home base, Milan) with her numerous lovers and husband. I'm in the process of interviewing her and recording her career step-by-step and her behind the scenes experiences and recollections added by treasured photos and adverts that we'll use to help tell the story.           I listen with baited breath for her titillating stories of the drama, the luxury, and the nitty-gritty of the personalities that shaped that world during those illustrious decades of sex, drugs and disco and above all - fashion. A pilot that promises to be a voyuerist's and fashionista's indulgence in time travel to a decade of excess, is in the making.

A Law Above the Law: The Trial

Party based on actual                                                                      events). Status: first draft in                                                                    progress.

Tagline: If what you believe in actually supports child sexual abuse, what would you do?

Logline: The exposé of routine negligence and malice by the hierarchy of the Jehovah's Witnesses being tried in a civil lawsuit of child sexual abuse vs. the legal loophole (upheld by the First Amendment) of clergy-penitent privilege. And the subsequent arrest of the guilty offender that operated in their midst for decades.

CSA & Jehovah's Witnesses in Court

These are some of the latest developments in the judicial system.

  • The US state of Wisconsin is holding a hearing into CSA by clergy and religious leaders. And in doing so, is also endeavoring to remove the statute of limitations requirement (as most US state's justice systems uphold). If the no SOL ruling is approved, CSA victims, in Wisconsin will not have to be pressured or traumatized by a court deadline in order to file their case. The average age for an adult's CSA litigation is 50 years of age. At that point in their lives, victim-survivors feel most confident and able to cope with the stress and repercussions of having their case heard in a public forum.

  • After an exhaustive State-wide Grand Jury investigation, the State of Pennsylvania has decided to "open a window" allowing victims, to file lawsuits against clergy members that are or were offenders (at the time of the offense). Which would also in the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania, the WTB&TS of New York, and the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

  • On the international scene, the Australian Royal Commission after recently completing hearings and cases of CSA coverups within the various religions that were defendants in the trial has established a "redress" scheme. In which each religion found guilty of negligence and/or malice must make restitution to victims, legally presenting their involvement. Failure to do so will result in the State revoking its status as tax-exempt. It's noteworthy that Watchtower had refused to comply with the "redress" scheme when given the choice to opt-out of Court. They cited that WT has never been guilty of a conspiracy to cover up CSA within its organization. However, the Royal Commission uncovered 1,006 cases of CSA that had not been reported by their hierarchy, to legally responsible government authorities.
